Frequently asked questions

What is Service Notifications?

A free iPhone companion app that sends push notifications for events in your ServiceM8 account (jobs, messages, invoices, schedule changes, and more). You choose which triggers are enabled in the app. This product is developed independently and is not affiliated with ServiceM8 Limited.

How do I connect my ServiceM8 account?

From the iPhone app:

  1. Install Service Notifications from the App Store.
  2. Sign in with Apple or Google.
  3. Tap to connect ServiceM8 and complete the OAuth sign-in in your browser.
  4. Return to the app; the header should show Connected.
  5. In Triggers, enable the events you want, then tap Sync webhooks.

You can also activate the add-on from the ServiceM8 Add-on Store or a private install link from your developer.

Which platforms are supported?

iPhone (iOS) is supported via the App Store app. Push notifications require a physical device; the iOS Simulator does not receive real push alerts. A web sign-in experience is available for account setup, but native push is delivered through the iOS app.

Why am I not receiving push notifications?

Work through these checks in order:

  1. iOS Settings → Notifications → Service Notifications → allow alerts.
  2. In the app Overview, confirm push shows Enabled (tap register if needed).
  3. Confirm ServiceM8 shows Connected and run Sync webhooks on the Triggers tab.
  4. Ensure the relevant triggers are turned on for your user (or staff member).
  5. Check Quiet hours in Settings; notifications may be suppressed during that window.
  6. Use Send test notification on Overview to verify the device token works.

If the test works but live events do not, check Deliveries for failed or "no devices" entries and email support with a screenshot.

What does "Webhook sync: Not synced" mean?

The app registers event subscriptions with ServiceM8 after you connect. Open the Triggers tab and tap Sync webhooks. If it still fails, sign out of ServiceM8 in Settings and reconnect, or email support with your account name.

Can my contractor manage triggers for staff?

Yes. Account owners can select staff on the Overview or Triggers tab and configure notification rules on their behalf. Staff members may see a banner that triggers are managed by their contractor when self-service is disabled.

How do reminders and location alerts work?

On the Reminders tab you can schedule time-based or location-based reminders. Location reminders use iOS geofencing and require Always or When In Use location permission, depending on your settings. You can monitor active regions in Settings.

How do I delete my account or data?

In the app, open SettingsDelete account and confirm. That permanently removes your sign-in, devices, rules, delivery history, and reminders you created.

You can also email info@speed-cert.com from the address linked to your sign-in if you cannot access the app.

Troubleshooting

Sign-in with Apple or Google fails

OAuth requires a working internet connection and an up-to-date app.

  1. Update Service Notifications from the App Store.
  2. Check Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  3. If using a VPN or corporate filter, try a standard network.
  4. Still stuck? Email support with your device model and iOS version.

ServiceM8 OAuth does not complete

The browser must return to the app after you approve access.

  1. Complete the ServiceM8 login and tap Allow for the requested permissions.
  2. If the browser stays open, switch back to the app manually.
  3. Try again from Settings and connect ServiceM8.
  4. If you recently changed ServiceM8 permissions or scopes, disconnect and reconnect the add-on.

Deliveries show "Failed" or "No devices"

  1. Re-enable push in Overview and send a test notification.
  2. Ensure you are signed in on the device that should receive alerts.
  3. Reinstall only as a last resort; sign in with the same Apple or Google account so data can sync back.
